Welcome to the Island of Capri, located near to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast in the Campania region of Southern Italy. This is an island that has something of an air of exclusivity about it, thanks to its popularity with the rich and famous. There are expensive hotels and shopping areas, but there is also much that will appeal to the everyday holiday-maker staying or visiting the island.
There are two main towns on the island, Capri Town, and Anacapri. Capri is the livelier of the two towns, and where many people choose to stay, while Anacapri is known as a quieter, better value destination. Surrounding these towns are many scenic walks, which take in views of the Bay of Naples, the Gardens of Augustus and Mone Solaro. Visitors can also enjoy the architecture on the island, which includes the remains of Emperor Tiberius’s Palace, and the Monastery of Certosa di San Giacomo. There is also the house of noted physician Axel Munthe, who came from Sweden to set up home on Capri.
Getting around the island couldn’t be easier. All areas are walkable and there’s also a busy bus service connecting the different parts of the island. Sightseeing boats around the island’s coastline are also popular. Ferries and Hydrofoils make regular journeys to Capri from Naples and Sorrento, which will take 1 hour 20 minute or 40 minutes respectively. It’s chic, stylish, and scenic, with an interesting history that attracts many different types of people every year. The question is will you be one of them?
