The Neapolitan Riviera, an area set around the Bay of Naples, which claims to be the most picturesque spot in the Mediterranean. It certainly has some stunning views over sparkling blue seas, and the impressive backdrop of Mount Vesuvius.

Holidays here could take in the chic island of Capri, the popular Amalfi coastline, the shopping paradise of Sorrento, or the historical Pompeii, which was partially buried after Mount Vesuvius erupted. The fascinating city of Rome is also within reach. Day trips and excursions are readily available, wherever you base yourself. There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re seeking nature, shopping, fine hotels, or great sightseeing.

As with any area in Southern Italy, there are plenty of opportunities to soak up the sun by hotel pools and bathing platforms, but not so much in the way of beaches. But across the Bay of Naples lies the island of Ischia, known for some beautiful sandy coves, and thermal springs, which you may have seen on the film The Talented Mr Ripley.

There are a few claims to fame worth mentioning as well. Sorrento is home to the world famous lemon liqueur, Limoncello, and the Riviera also invented the Margherita Pizza, and Napolitana Pasta Sauce. There are no shortage of places to enjoy these, and other traditional Italian dishes. Take your pick from the Trattorias of Sorrento or the seafood restaurants by the water in Capri. Nightlife is mostly relaxed, although there are a few lively spots with discos, (some of them open air) in Sorrento and Naples.

Take a holiday here, and you’re sure to be enchanted, returning home not just with souvenirs, but memories of a beautiful holiday in one of the gems of Italy’s coastline. Flights are available from numerous U.K airports, arriving at Naples airport in less than 3 hours. Transfer times are under two hours.
